The MET Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, and marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year presents a different theme relating to the upcoming exhibit, and this year it was “Manus vs Machina”, so assuming if the attendees stuck to the theme there will be lots of wearable tech…
I’ll try to hide my disappointment at the fact Katy Perry was not wearing a floor length light up gown a la 2003 Hillary Duff in the Lizzie McGuire Movie. However, there were a few get ups that caught my eye. These are the real MVP’s of last nights Gala. In no particular order, we have…
FKA Twigs – Versace
She has the dress and her accessories down to a tee with fiancée Robert Pattinson seemingly attached to her side all night. The head wear compliments her arm wear perfectly.
Lorde – Valentino
Despite the unexplained cast on her arm Lorde still managed to look effortlessly flawless and elegant in her tiered Valentino couture ensemble.
Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill, Maryna Linchuk – Topshop
Topshop doing it again with three guests as stunning as their dresses. If Kendall Jenner and Jordan Dunn, the Topshop ambassadors of last year’s Met Gala are anything to go by, we’ll be seeing a lot more of these girls soon enough.
Elle Fanning – Thakoon
Only Elle could pull off this custom Thakoon silk slip dress with a sleek blonde ponytail and fresh makeup. She still looked stunning even when she’d managed to lose her ponytail extension whilst messing around in the Vogue Manus x Machina Instagram booth and had to recruit Alexa Chung to fix her up.
Lily Rose Depp – Chanel
Gah just no words. And the make up… I need all the purple eye shadows. The nude embellishments on this fitted Chanel halter just make Chanel magic.
Lara Stone – Tom Ford
Must not mix up Lara Croft with Lara Stone. Both killing it – with Stone in an embellished Tom Ford gown, complete with black ribbon choker.
Zendaya – Michael Kors
Whilst the bowl haircut is leaving something to be desired, I can’t say the same about her brown-gold studded skin tight high neck Michael Kors gown.
